Hi Astro Bunnies, I added this section to give a little background about how I became a Nick fan and answer why in the world I would add another Nick fan site to the dozens and dozens of shrines to this man that already exist.
My first sighting of Nick Rhodes was in the video for "Come Undone" in the summer of 1993 (as pictured above). I was a fascinated 13-year-old girl. I remember thinking, "Who is this interesting looking blonde guy?" And that I was impressed by how all of them looked so physically attractive. Each and every one of them! I was familiar with the song along with "Ordinary World" that were both in heavy rotation on radio at the time.
The music so seduced me that not long after I purchased the The Wedding Album after practically begging my mother for money to get it at the local Music Plus store (which wasn't easy since she had earlier treated me to a movie, a horrid animated Snow White - not the Disney version). I am surprised that my copy is not damaged in some way or another from all the spins it had on my CD player. I recall thinking that Simon was especially cute, looking at the band pictures at the back of the long box that came with the CD (yeah, remember those?). I showed it to my best friend at the time during lunch at the schoolyard once and asked her, "What do you think of this guy?" She said she thought John was the cutest. She herself was going through her own fandom with U2. Our mutual obsessions would become a stronghold in our friendship throughout our highschool years.
A dream is what brought me to become a Nick fan if that can be believed. If it wasn't for this vivid, erotic dream (my first, mind you!!) I had of Nick Rhodes, I could've very well become a Simon fan! (Although I always like to think that I'd come to love Nick eventually after finding out how cool he was.) This dream took place on a rooftop of a building in a city. Nick was .. shall we say, very friendly with me? Nothing too saucy happened. We kept our clothes on. But it was beautiful; the man, the setting .. which had gorgeous, dense colour and an almost comic-book quality to it all. It had such an affect on me, I woke up a Nick fan. I am reminded of the "Love Voodoo" lyric, "When I first met you on the roof you caught me with your web of youth but now I know the wicked truth/It's much too late so what's the use in fighting?" Nope, can't say I ever seriously fought off Nick's seductions. I have yet to grow out of this Nick love ever since, although there was a time when I had a huge crush on Warren as well (something about those muscles and his sense of humor). But that soon faded away sometime in 1995 and I've been a devoted Nick lover exclusively.
Why, though? Well, quite simply I really like him as a person. He's intelligent, talented, likes a lot of things I do, funny, quirky, lame, kitschy, elegant, professional, a gentleman ...not to forget oh-so beautiful. And I've heard he's cuddly - he certainly looks it! Cuddliness is always a nice thing. It's really many, many things that I've discovered about him that have endeared him to my heart. I could make a list, but I do not want to look more of a geek than I am already. LOL!
During the bulk of my teenage years, I was completely obsessed with the guy .. collecting every concievable photograph of him, studying various factoids, hearing/reading every word he ever uttered became a much-enjoyed hobby of mine. Being a typical teenager in that I went through a depressive-state, it was really a gift that I had my interest in Nick and Duran Duran's music because it brought light and happiness to my bleak life (or what I precieved as bleak at the time). Looking forward to something is always important in life and that's what Nick gave me. I will always be greatly appreciative of what positive things that came about through my love of Nick and the band's music. Nick taught me style and culture; he was a catalyst to discover other cool music (Bowie!), films (Almodovar), books (From A to B and Back Again), etc.
This website was to thank Nick for his generosity towards me and to hopefully entertain other fans of his. He reached my soul with his beautiful art and beautiful being, without even knowing it. I am not as obsessive as yesteryears past (um, if that can believed because I've made such an extensive fan site lol), but I am still an avid admirer of Nick Rhodes and a great fan of the music he created (and creates!) with the band(s) he was/is involved in.
Nick, in the tiny chance that you might be personally reading this, Thank You. You've got a special place in my heart forever for all that you've brought to my life. And yes, it's true, you're such a wonderful person!
Also many, many kisses to Baron De La Rogue, my paramour, for all his help with the site. Lava you!
